Hi, I'm Marcus, founder of MC Piano Tuition.

 

Music has been at the heart of my life for over 35 years, and I've spent more than 20 years helping students of all ages become confident, creative musicians. I hold a BMus (Hons) in Music, together with the ATCL and LTCL performance diplomas from Trinity College London, and I'm currently preparing for the FRSM—one of the highest performance qualifications available.

 

I began learning piano at a young age, achieving Grade 8 while still in primary school, and have since built a career as a performer, composer, recording artist, and educator. I've toured professionally as a session musician and have released original music that has been stocked in HMV and Virgin Megastores.

 

Alongside running MC Piano Tuition, I work as a Lead Teacher for Kent Music, where I supervise, mentor, and quality-assure instrumental teachers across the county. As part of this role, I observe and support teachers who are graduates of some of the UK's most prestigious institutions, including the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music, and the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, helping to maintain the highest standards of instrumental teaching.

 

My teaching philosophy is centred on creativity. Rather than relying solely on traditional method books, I believe students should be actively making music from their very first lesson. My students compose their own music, create their own personalised method books, improvise, explore musical ideas, and develop a deep understanding of how music works. This approach nurtures intrinsic motivation, confidence, independence, and a genuine love of music, rather than simply teaching students to pass exams.

 

Every lesson is tailored to the individual. Whether you're preparing for graded examinations, learning your favourite songs, returning to the piano after a break, developing your improvisation, or composing your own music, lessons are designed around your goals, interests, and learning style.

 

Over the years, I've taught hundreds of students, maintaining a 100% exam pass rate while also helping many others enjoy music without the pressure of examinations. I am fully DBS checked, providing a safe, professional, and supportive learning environment for every student.

 

My aim is simple: to provide modern piano teaching for the modern student—helping every learner become not just a pianist, but a confident, creative, and lifelong musician.
